During an observation, an LPN was administering medication to a resident when three pills spilled out of the medication packet. One pill fell into the bottom opened drawer of the medication cart, and two pills landed on the top of the cart, outside the barrier that was in place. The LPN then retrieved the pills and placed them in a medication cup to administer to the resident. This breach in infection control was confirmed by the Director of Nursing shortly after the incident.
